Sequences of oligonucleotides prepared from tobacco mosaic virus ribonucleic acid.

چکیده
Sequence anal, yses have been performed on 11 long-chainlength oligonucleotides isolated from RNase T, digests of tobacco mosaic virus ribonucleic acid. The chainlengths of these oligonucleotides range from 14-72 nucleotides. The structures of six oligonucleotides have been determined, including one that corresponds to a portion of the amino acid sequence in the coat protein. Partial sequences have been established for the remaining five.

Location of unique sequences in tobacco mosaic virus ribonucleic acid.
Tobacco mosaic virus has been partially stripped of its protein coat by sodium dodecyl sulfate. The nucleic acid exposed was digested with T1 ribonuclease and the products were examined for the presence of three oligonucleotides of unique sequence. The results indicate the location of two of the unique oligomers to be near the 5’-OH-linked end and the third to be near the middle of tobacco mosa...
متن کاملThe Effect of Nucleic Acids and of Carbohydrates on the Formation of Streptolysin
1. Ribonucleic acid of yeast causes the formation of a potent hemolysin in broth cultures of Streptococcus pyogenes. 2. The hemolysin whose formation is induced by yeast ribonucleic acid appears to be identical with streptolysin S. 3. Desoxyribonucleic acid, products of acid or alkaline hydrolysis of ribonucleic acid, or many other substances tested, fail to produce a similar effect. 4. Digesti...
متن کاملHighly polymerized ribonucleic acid; preparation from liver and depolymerization.
The degree of polymerization of native ribonucleic acid (RNA) has received relatively little attention. No highly polymerized RNA from mammalian tissue has been reported, probably because degradation had occurred under the drastic procedures generally used in the isolation of RNA. The freshly isolated RNA of tobacco mosaic virus, prepared under mild procedures by Cohen and Stanley (l), had a mo...
متن کاملThe Infection of Rhoeo discoZor by Tobacco Mosaic Virus Ribonucleic Acid
A previous report (1) has indicated that Rhoeo discolor is susceptible to infection only by tobacco mosaic virus ribonucleic acid but not by the complete virus; however, recently Bawden (2)’ has obtained evidence that the intact virus can also multiply in this host. The present report indicates that these contradictory results are due to extreme differences in the physiological state of the hos...
متن کاملThe susceptibility of Rhoeo discolor to infection by tobacco mosaic virus.
Gordon and Smith (1) reported that leaves of Rhoeo discolor, although insusceptible to infection by whole tobacco mosaic virus, become infected when inoculated with the virus ribonucleic acid. If established, this would be perhaps the strongest possible circumstantial evidence that infection by tobacco mosaic virus necessarily entails the ribonucleic acid separating from the protein and that so...
